Birken 2010 - hardest and coldest race ever! PDF Print E-mail

To say it was cold is an understatement. Pouring rain and between 3-6 degrees made it a chilling experience. Frozen to the bone - could not feel my legs below the knees half of the race... BUT what a feeling coming down to the Håkonshall arena and crossing the finish line!!! Took 1 hour with 28 degrees on the car heater and seat heater on 5 (!) before I got core temperature back...

Just to illustrate how cold it was - I had 68 Kpm top speed down from the moutain, that is 18.6 m/s (= fresh gale) . According to this table with 5 degrees, the wind chill factor would be equal to -11 degrees !!!

Before the race - all clean and mostly dry           After the finish, a tad bit colder and wetter :-D

Edvald was KING at Oslo Grand Prix 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Unlike last year, with several slow rounds while Lance Armstrong waved to the crowd, this year was full speed from the start. Each lap taking approx 1 min it was fast! Race went on for 1 hour, then 5 more laps. Thor Hushovd tried a break away several laps before the finish, as he was uncertain about his sprint form and feared Edvald (who has beaten him several times during this years Tour de France). But he was reeled in and Andy Schleck and Edvald did a counter attack just two laps from the finish...let's just say, Andy never had a chance! Congratulations Edvald!

Birken 2009 - mud hole! PDF Print E-mail

World largest moutain bike race is finally over...it was a very very muddy event. It had rain the last month (not kidding) and the last 24 hours it came 40mm from 15:00 the day before until morning of the race - you can only imagine what that had done to the course. Fair to say, it's more a gravel road race than a real in the woods trail race - and lucky us for that, because the part of the track that was in the woods had gone into disintegration - mud to your eyebrows!

Enjoy the pictures...and until next time (let's hope it drys until then HERE ;-)

Also enjoy these Kodak moments from VG

Merethe - first time - and she DID IT !!! Congratulations Merethe!

10 years - 10 times over the mountain = trophy!

Muddy as h... and look at the one in the middle, no seat (in the hand)!

Lance is back after 16 years - that's right, last time was during the World Championships....the day it was raining like hell and Lance became WC, his last race before cancer took him out of racing. Check out the pictures I took during the race last night HERE

The MTB World Champion Rune Høydal trying to follow Lance down the straight...lasted for a some rounds...but then the Pro-Tour guys put in an extra gear and off they went!

Tor Hushovd, The Green Bull from Grimstad, down the straight...closing in for the final attack and victory!
